Dear Birthparents,
We are Brian and Melanie from Houston, Texas. Though we have never met, we have faith that God is with you as you struggle with the decision that is before you. With unexpected turns in our own road of life, we have realized how much more God is in control of all things than we are. As you search for peace in this process, we thank you for carefully considering our family and pray that God will guide you all the way. For several years, we have prayed for a child to love and care for. After unsuccessfully trying to conceive and undergoing fertility treatment, we continue to press on trusting God and his path for us. We feel that God has led us to open adoption and are excited about all that He has in store.
We met in college at Baylor University in 1993 through mutual friends. Our first date was very memorable because Melanie pretended to like seafood at dinner and Brian accidentally slammed the car door on Melanie’s hand! Brian thought it was all over, but Melanie thought it was the best date she’d ever had! We then dated 4 more years and married in October of 1998.
Brian is 34 years old and grew up in Houston, Texas. He is easygoing and caring with a great sense of humor. He was active in football and debate in high school and now enjoys fishing, golf, and traveling. His family taught him to love good food and he especially enjoys grilling up savory meat or fish on his BBQ grill for a crowd. At Baylor University he received a BBA in accounting and he is currently a CPA working for an accounting firm. His parents have been married 35 years and also live in Houston, which is great because we get to see them a lot. His sister Sharon lives in Dallas with her husband Brad and their three children. We are very close to all of them and visit often.
Melanie is 34 years old and grew up in Washington, D.C. and then Waco, Texas. She sang in choir in high school and played piano for 10 years, but her real love is teaching and she knew it at the age of five. She continued to pursue this dream even after a quivering voice condition suddenly appeared when she was 17. It helped her empathize with others in struggles they encounter and she persevered through it and thrived in the classroom. After receiving a BA in English and French from Baylor, she taught high school students for 6 years. Now, she is working part-time tutoring students of all ages, ready to be a stay at home mom as she devotes herself more to family. Melanie is calm and friendly and has a funny and outgoing spark that comes alive in her storytelling, so students really love her. Her parents, married for 37 years, live in Waco and her two sisters, Leah and Lynnelle, live in Dallas. All three sisters are very close and have always been best friends. Melanie loves anything French and shows her creative side by singing, decorating, and entertaining kids, and of course, she’s always up for shopping and visiting with friends.
Married life in Houston has blessed us with wonderful joys as a couple. We had a honeymoon in London and Paris and have enjoyed both the Colorado mountains and the beaches of Cozumel. Melanie has been a sport to fly fish at 6:00 a.m. in freezing water and Brian even agreed to try dancing lessons. Though we enjoy vacations and travel, our favorite memories are all the little things of daily life together. We value friendships a lot and have been blessed with close 
couple friends who live in our neighborhood and visit often. Also, we are actively involved with many young couples at Bammel Church of Christ, where we have enjoyed Bible studies, camping trips, and beach excursions together. Praying together and being active in church have been a source of strength for us and have helped us keep a sense of humor in all things.
